Send your first batch of data
SendCrypt is a client that allows you to send encrypted sensitive data using the SFTP protocol without relying on any third-party services. This means that you don’t need to install any library or dependencies and you don’t need to make some complicated configurations.
In this guide, we’ll go through the setup of your first project to send your first batch of data.
Projects
SendCrypt relies on the concept of projects which are, simply put, a specific configuration to use to encrypt and transfer data.
Available projects can be accessed by clicking on Projects in the left navigation bar.
Adding a project remotely
You need to be signed in to use this feature.
Remote projects are auto-generated configurations that you can use. It’s the recommended way to add a project.
To be able to add a remote project, you need to be a member of the project on https://sendcrypt.sib.swiss.
You can add a project remotely by clicking on the Add remote project button. This will open a dialog:
Then, select a specific project and the fields will be automatically filled with the requested values.
Finally, click on Save to save your new project.
Adding a project manually
This option is recommended for advanced users only as it requires some technical knowledge.
You can add a project manually by clicking on the Add project button. This will open a dialog to fill all the required information about your project.
Project name: The name of your project
Username: The SSH username for the SFTP transfer
API URL (optional): This URL can be used to send a notification upon a successful transfer
Host: The SSH host for the SFTP transfer
Port: The SSH port for the SFTP transfer
Remote path: The remote path where the SFTP transfer should store the data
Public PGP key: The public PGP key to use to encrypt data (needs to be in ASCII armored format)
Activate a project
Once a project has been added, you will need to activate it. To do so, click on the three dots at the end of the row, which should open a submenu:
Finally, click on Switch to this project to activate the project. You should now see a green icon next to the project name and also see your project in the bottom bar:
Send your first batch
Your application should already be fully configured. If that’s not the case, you can follow this guide.
Click on Send in the left navigation menu.
Add files
SendCrypt only supports files and cannot transfer folders. You can add files by dragging and dropping them in the table or you can click on Add files in the top right which will open a dialog to manually select the files you would like to add. Once you added a file, you should see it in the table:
When you added all the files that you want to send, simply click on the Send (X files) button.
If your PGP key is protected with a passphrase, you will be prompted with a dialog asking you to fill your passphrase. Make sure to fill the passphrase and then click on Submit.
Your PGP passphrase is only stored until you close the application.
This should display a loading screen until the process is completed:
